About Gaines Bend

To fully understand the importance and impact Gaines Bend has had on PK, you would need to go back to before the lake was formed. As one of the original ranches formed in the 1800s, the ranch continues to be managed by the same family after all these years.

The Brazos River Authority (BRA) arrived in the Palo Pinto Mountains, planning to build the Morris Sheppard Dam between Red Bluffs, creating PK Lake, and worked frequently with the Gibson family as one of the primary land holders on the south end of the Brazos River. The family has since developed a section of waterfront and turned into the Property Owners Association (POA) it is today.

Gaines Bend proudly offers one of the most diversely landscaped communities at Possum Kingdom Lake. Currently, it is the only POA that the BRA allows to have walkways down the impressive stone cliffs. With water depths in some areas being over 90 feet deep under the floating docks. On the North and East portion of the community, you will find gentle sloping sand beaches with the calming waves from boat wakes lapping the shoreline.

While there are not many amenities in the community, historically, more homes over $4,000,000 have sold here on the open market than any community at PK thus far. While most homes in the community have not commanded such a hefty sum, it is worth noting in order to understand the value of land here.
